Autonomous Nurse Practitioner

Amanda is an Autonomous Nurse Practitioner who has been working at South Saxon House Surgery since 2015. Amanda has a varied nursing background. She began her professional nursing career in Eastbourne A&E. She continued to study and successfully attained her independent prescribing.

As an autonomous nurse practitioner Amanda is able to prescribe as well as manage treatments request test and investigations. Amanda’s role is to see all groups with new illnesses, minor injuries, sexual health, contraception mental health such as low moods and anxiety. Amanda is fully trained to access minor injuries and is able to glue and suture, she is qualified to treat conditions without the direct supervision of a doctor. The role has been in existence for some years now and is a response to the national GP shortage; it was devised to allow the GP’s time to deal with complex healthcare needs whilst not compromising patient care. This role is not to replace that of GP only to enhance it .
